Airbus will establish a Research and Development Centre of Excellence at Gujarat's Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. Managing Director Jurgen Westermeier revealed this decision during discussions with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The aerospace manufacturer sources components worth over one billion dollars annually from more than 100 Indian suppliers. Bengaluru hosts the company's Digital Centre, which ranks as its second-largest global facility after the Toulouse headquarters. The organization established a Global Capability Centre in 2018 to support worldwide operations.
The company employs over 3600 people across Indian locations, with 1500 skilled information technology professionals delivering business solutions. Airbus partners with prominent Indian educational institutions on research projects spanning sustainability, engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. Mahindra Aerostructures received a contract for manufacturing H125 helicopter fuselages in August. Air India purchased 100 Airbus aircraft during December 2024, comprising A350 wide-body and A320 narrow-body models. India functions as a strategic resource center providing exceptional talent and research capabilities.
