Al Ahli gets mauled by Mayele in Jeddah

Egyptian club Pyramids FC secured their inaugural FIFA tournament victory by defeating Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia 3-1 at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Fiston Mayele from the Democratic Republic of Congo scored three goals to deliver the African-Asian-Pacific Cup trophy to the Cairo-based team. The match took place before a capacity crowd on Tuesday evening, marking Al Ahli's first participation in a FIFA club competition. Pyramids controlled the decisive moments despite facing strong opposition from the Saudi champions. This victory represents a historic achievement for African club football on the global stage.

Mayele opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a low shot past goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. Al Ahli equalized through Ivan Toney's penalty kick just before halftime, energizing the home supporters. The Egyptian side regained their lead when Mayele found the net again in the 71st minute. Four minutes later, the striker completed his hat-trick to seal the victory for Pyramids. The triumph advances them to the FIFA Challenger Cup scheduled for December 13, where they will meet either Cruz Azul or the CONMEBOL Libertadores winners.
