Alix Madigan and Dorina Amina Abubakar transform the Zimbabwe Film School

American film experts Alix Madigan and Dorina Amina Abubakar visited Harare for a week-long workshop at the Zimbabwe Film and Television School of Arts starting July 7. The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe organized a roundtable discussion on July 9 where both producers encouraged investment from the government and private sectors. NACZ director Napoleon Nyanhi praised the training for addressing Zimbabwe's National Film Strategy pillars, while board chairperson Nozipho Maraire highlighted how the program fills knowledge gaps among African filmmakers.

The United States embassy funded this initiative through coordinator Butholezwe Nyathi, who emphasized connecting experienced producers with local talent. Madigan brings expertise from producing Winter's Bone and other acclaimed films, while Abubakar offers African content development experience from her work at African Creative TV. Local film practitioners attended the discussions, with participants like Raphel Yobe and Sharleen Furusa calling the roundtable essential for Zimbabwe's film industry development.
