AMD teases new Radeon AI PRO GPUs, R9700S eyes laptops

AMD might be cooking up a couple more RDNA 4 cards for its Radeon AI PRO R9000 lineup after support pages surfaced for the R9700S and R9600D models. The company only sells one consumer version right now, the R9700, which dropped last month for $1299 with 32GB of memory.

The R9700S could be AMD's first mobile RDNA 4 chip since this generation skipped laptops entirely. If it packs the full Navi 48 core with 32GB like its desktop sibling, it might go head-to-head with the RTX 5090 laptop GPU, which basically reuses cut-down RTX 5080 desktop silicon.

The R9600D is trickier to pin down since AMD never used that D suffix before, but it matches the naming pattern for export-compliant Chinese GPUs. Recent Linux drivers added support for both the R9600D and the existing W7900D Chinese variant, which makes that theory seem pretty solid.
