Anandkumar Velkumar fires up China, India skates to record haul

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya recognized Indian athletes who competed at the 73rd Inline Speed Skating World Championships in Beidaihe, China from September 13 to 21. The national skating squad delivered unprecedented results by earning five medals and ranking fifth among more than 40 competing countries. Athletes secured three gold medals and two bronze medals during this breakthrough competition. The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports praised the team for achieving multiple historic milestones. India celebrated its first senior world championship medal and highest total medal count at any global skating event.

Anandkumar Velkumar became the first Indian senior athlete to win world championship medals by claiming gold in both 1000m sprint and 42,195km marathon events. The 22-year-old skater also earned bronze in the 500m sprint competition. Krish Sharma captured India's inaugural junior gold medal in the 1000m sprint category at age 18. Anish Raj added a bronze medal in the Junior Men's One Lap Sprint event. Twenty Indian competitors represented their nation across senior and junior divisions during the nine-day championship.
