Anwar Hopes Canada Will Waive Visas for Malaysian Travelers

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reached out to Canadian leader Mark Carney about making travel easier for Malaysian citizens. The Malaysian leader wants Canada to drop visa requirements for people from his country. Anwar believes Commonwealth nations should receive equal treatment when it comes to travel rules. He thinks removing these barriers would help build stronger connections between both countries. The request aims to boost exchanges between Malaysia and Canada.

Anwar made the phone call from Paris where he was conducting official government business. He contacted Carney to celebrate the Liberal Party's recent election success. The Malaysian prime minister used this opportunity to bring up the visa issue during their conversation. He hopes the Canadian government will change its current policy. The call happened during Anwar's diplomatic trip to France.

Malaysian travelers currently face strict visa requirements when visiting Canada. Citizens must obtain special permits whether they want to vacation, study, or work there. The process involves paying multiple fees to different organizations. People must pay the Canadian government directly along with biometric processing costs. VFS Global handles visa applications and charges extra service fees as the official third-party administrator.
