Anwar says Malaysia's GDP could surpass growth projections for 2025

Malaysia could exceed its annual economic projections after posting 4.4 percent expansion during the first half of 2025, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told parliament. The finance minister projected third-quarter output at 5.2 percent while highlighting the country's advancement to 23rd position in the 2025 Global Competitiveness Index, an 11-place climb representing its strongest showing since 2020.

Trade volumes climbed 4.4 percent between January and September to reach approximately 2.24 trillion ringgit despite international uncertainty stemming from tariff policies under former American President Donald Trump. Anwar credited the Madani Economic Policy for sustaining growth momentum as he responded to questions from Aminolhuda Hassan regarding the framework's effectiveness after nearly two years of implementation.
