AOC introduces cheapest 27" 4k QD OLED display yet

AOC will soon be launching a 27" 4k QD OLED monitor, the Agon Pro AG276UZD. At 899 euros, it should be cheaper than similar screens from other brands. Later this year, a 600Hz full HD monitor will also follow, which will cost considerably less than the competition.

AOC introduced the screens at its event, which Tweakers attended. The Agon Pro AG276UZD, not to be confused with the Agon Pro AG276QZD from two years ago, is the new 4k QD OLED monitor. Like other screens introduced at CES earlier this year, such as the MSI MPG272URX and ASUS ROG Swift PG27UCDM, it has a 240Hz refresh rate and a glossy finish. The screen has 48Gbit/s HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB-C port with 65W power delivery, and an 80Gbit/s DisplayPort 2.1 port. The aforementioned competitors also have these, but AOC supplies a 1.5m DisplayPort 2.1 cable, where the other brands do not go further than 80cm.

With a suggested retail price of 899 euros, the AG276UZD is a few hundred euros cheaper than the MPG272URX and PG27UCDM. ASUS also has the XG27UCDMG in its range, which is currently a few tens of euros more expensive at the cheapest supplier, but it does not have DisplayPort 2.1. AOC expects the AG276UZD to be available in May.

In April last year, AOC introduced the Agon Pro AG246FK: a 540Hz monitor with a 24.1" TN panel and a Full HD resolution. The AG246FK6 that is now being announced is an updated version. It has the same panel and design as last year's monitor, but the maximum refresh rate has been increased to 600Hz, and the HDMI ports have been upgraded to version 2.1 so that the screen can be driven at its new maximum speed without compression.

The motion blur reduction feature has been improved with something AOC calls 'Dual Backlight Technology. ' This should help prevent crosstalk. In most LCD monitors with a motion blur reduction feature, the backlight as a whole flickers at the same frequency as the panel. Because the LCD panel does not refresh as a whole but from top to bottom, the synchronization between panel and backlight is not perfect, and the image is, therefore, not equally sharp everywhere.

Instead of an LED strip at the bottom of the panel, the AG246FK's backlight is formed by two LED strips on both sides. Each strip consists of twenty LEDs that can be controlled independently of each other. This way, the flashing of the backlight can follow the panel's refresh, and the image is equally sharp everywhere.

The Agon Pro AG246FK6 is not the first monitor with these features. In January, BenQ also announced a 600Hz TN monitor with a similar backlight, the Zowie XL2586X+. It currently costs 1199 euros, while the AOC screen should only cost 699 euros. The AG246FK6 should be in stores in July.
