Apple delays M5 MacBook Pro to spring 2026, outrage over iPhone 17e

Apple fans waiting for the next MacBook Pro just got hit with disappointing news about major delays. The tech giant was supposed to drop M5-powered laptops before Christmas but company executives changed their minds at the last minute. Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman spilled the beans that Apple scrapped plans for any Mac refreshes featuring the M5 chip during 2024. The California company will make customers wait until spring 2025 for both MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with the new processor. Apple appears to be abandoning its predictable yearly upgrade schedule that consumers have grown accustomed to expecting.

The M5 iPad Pro tablets were also supposed to arrive during their traditional spring launch window but Apple pushed those back as well. Industry watchers believe Apple might still announce the M5 iPad Pro models during October based on past release patterns. The company typically debuts new chips inside iPad Pro devices first before putting them into MacBook computers months later. Apple followed the same playbook with M4 processors when they appeared in iPads during May before MacBooks got them in October.

Apple plans to flood the market with multiple devices when spring 2025 arrives including M5 MacBook Pro models, M4 iPad Air tablets, updated entry-level iPads, M5 MacBook Air computers, the iPhone 17e, and a new external monitor. The delays will push back the highly anticipated OLED MacBook Pro with M6 chips even further into 2026 or 2027. Supply chain sources remain tight-lipped about concrete details regarding the shifted timeline.
