Apple hooks China fans with dirt-cheap iPhone 13 battery swaps

Apple is desperately simping for China with a massive discount on hardware repairs. The tech giant launched a program where iPhone 13 owners in the region can swap old batteries for just 399 Yuan through late April. This price represents a steep drop from the usual 729 Yuan fee charged for the same service.

American customers might feel salty seeing this generosity because domestic repair costs for the iPhone 16 lineup actually increased late last year. While the US market sees price hikes hitting 119 dollars for premium models, the Chinese market enjoys subsidized maintenance to keep older handsets running longer.

Tipster Ice Universe claims the iPhone 17 series sold over 15 million units locally just before the new year started. That figure destroys the Xiaomi 17 series, which lags behind by a massive margin. Apple seemingly outsold every major domestic flagship combined during that same window.

Research groups note that Cupertino devices grabbed a quarter of the entire market share back in October. Such dominance was last seen years ago. Offering cheap repairs helps maintain this momentum while locking users deeper into the ecosystem against local rivals.
