Apple overtakes Samsung to lead the global smartphone market

Apple just crushed everyone to finally steal the global smartphone crown. Counterpoint Research data shows the Cupertino giant snatched a massive twenty percent slice of the worldwide pie. This surge pushed them past rivals thanks to huge demand for the iPhone 17 lineup alongside surprising residual love for iPhone 16 models in Asia.

Samsung barely missed the top spot, ending the year with nineteen percent control. The Korean manufacturer faced heavy pressure across Western Europe and Latin America but held ground elsewhere. Meanwhile, Xiaomi secured third place, capturing roughly thirteen percent of total international sales during this competitive cycle.

The entire industry saw shipments climb two percent throughout 2025, marking a second straight year of gains. Apple outperformed the pack significantly, logging ten percent growth compared to previous figures. Analysts credited this spike to successful launches and sustained momentum in key territories like India.

Future projections look bleak, with experts predicting a three percent dip next year because of rising component costs and AI hardware shortages. Math nerds estimate the iPhone maker shipped nearly 255 million units total, cementing their lead for the first time in over a decade.
