Apple Set To Steal Samsung 200MP iPhone Camera Trick

Apple spent years before moving from 12MP cameras to 48MP sensors on newer iPhones. The bigger sensors let people crop photos without losing picture quality. Samsung uses 200MP cameras on some phones but Apple avoids them. Recent rumors suggest Apple might change its mind about high-resolution cameras. The company could adopt similar technology for future iPhone models.

Samsung released the Galaxy S25 Edge with a 200MP camera that works differently from Apple devices. A tech reviewer tested the phone and found something interesting about photo quality. The Galaxy S25 Edge uses sensor cropping at 4x zoom instead of optical lenses. This technique sometimes beats the iPhone 16 Pro models at 5x zoom. Samsung made special improvements to help the Edge camera perform better than expected.

Apple could use similar sensor cropping methods on upcoming iPhone models without zoom lenses. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air might benefit from this approach. These phones currently lack the advanced camera systems found on Pro models. Apple probably will not add 200MP sensors to basic iPhones right away. The technology might arrive on future devices as camera systems continue improving.
