Apple's grand foldable vision falters, delayed to 2027

Apple is facing delays with one of its two planned foldable products currently under development. GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu reports the company will postpone production of an 18.8-inch foldable device from 2026 to 2027. The smaller iPhone Fold maintains its 2026 release schedule as planned. Supply chains remain ready for the phone-sized model while the larger version encounters development challenges. Mass production for both devices was originally scheduled to begin in late 2026.

The larger foldable device sparks debate among industry experts about its intended purpose. Some analysts believe Apple will create a MacBook replacement running macOS with touch capabilities. Others predict the company will develop a foldable iPad instead. The device may function as a hybrid product combining features from both product lines. Apple has not confirmed which operating system the 18.8-inch model will use upon release.
