Sydney Thunder signed retired Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for the fifteenth Big Bash League season, making him the first male Indian international cricketer to participate in the tournament. The experienced bowler retired from international cricket during the recent Border Gavaskar Trophy series and ended his Indian Premier League career last month. Ashwin accumulated 765 international wickets across 287 matches for India and won two IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings while claiming 187 tournament wickets. Thunder general manager Trent Copeland praised the signing, while Ashwin expressed enthusiasm about joining David Warner and contributing to the team when he arrives in early January.
