Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake All but Confirmed by Voice Actor Matt Ryan

Actor Matt Ryan appears to have confirmed rumors about an Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake during a recent convention appearance. Ryan provided the voice for main character Edward Kenway when the pirate adventure game first launched in 2013. He told a fan that players might need to complete the game again but refused to share more details. The actor also portrayed John Constantine across multiple DC Entertainment projects. His comments suggest Ubisoft has major plans for the beloved naval combat title.

Gaming news outlet Kotaku first reported on remake plans exactly two years ago. Sources indicated that Ubisoft Montreal would lead development with assistance from the Singapore studio. The Singapore team had previously worked on Skull and Bones, which borrowed heavily from Black Flag's ship mechanics. Industry insider Tom Henderson revealed last October that development had progressed further than expected. The project originally targeted a November 2025 release date.

Delays to Assassin's Creed Shadows have pushed back the Black Flag remake timeline. Shadows moved from late 2024 to February 2025, affecting other Ubisoft releases. The remake will likely arrive sometime during 2026 instead of next year. Gaming industry watchers expect an official announcement at upcoming events. Potential venues include Gamescom Opening Night Live or The Game Awards ceremony in December.
