ASUS ROG Strix laptop with Ryzen 9 8940HX and RTX 5070 Ti

A Chinese store sells a new ASUS gaming laptop with secret parts inside. The laptop has an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX chip that almost nobody knows about. This computer costs about $1907 for people who want to buy it. Someone posted about this on Weibo and said AMD kept these new laptop chips very quiet. The store looked everywhere but could not find this chip on any official AMD websites.

People thought AMD would show these updated Dragon Range chips at the big Las Vegas show. Instead, AMD focused on newer Fire Range chips with the 9000HX name. MSI did something strange when they talked about a Ryzen 9 8945HX chip in their press papers. Past rumors said these refreshed Dragon chips run slightly faster than older versions. The Ryzen 9 8940HX reaches speeds up to 5.3 GHz, which beats the older 7940HX by just 100 MHz.

These Dragon Range chips use older graphics parts inside the main processor. Because of this, companies that make laptops will probably add separate graphics cards from NVIDIA. The ASUS laptop comes with a new RTX 5070 Ti that has 12 GB of memory. This helps the computer run games much better than using just the built-in AMD graphics. Laptop makers like ASUS must pair these chips with strong graphics cards for serious gaming performance.
