ASUS X870 MAX WiFi7 board steals hearts at 200 bucks

ASUS released its X870 MAX Gaming WiFi7 motherboard for AMD processors today. The company offers two color options: standard black or white with silver heatsinks. This board sits below the TUF Gaming series but aims to compete with similar models from GIGABYTE and MSI. It uses the ATX size and needs both 24-pin and two 8-pin power connectors to run.

The motherboard features a 12+2+1 phase power design with 80 A power stages. It includes four DDR5 memory slots and one PCIe 5.0 slot for graphics cards. Storage options include one Gen 5 M.2 slot, one Gen 4 M.2 slot connected to the CPU, another Gen 4 M.2 slot from the chipset, and four SATA ports. The board also provides HDMI and DisplayPort outputs through its two USB4 Type-C ports.

Users will find various USB connections, including a 10 Gbps port, three 5 Gbps ports, and four USB 2.0 ports. The WiFi7 and Bluetooth 5.4 come from MediaTek, and the internet connects through a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. Audio runs on a basic Realtek ALC892 chip. These boards will likely cost just over $200, making them among the most affordable X870 options available.
