Atal Pension Yojana crosses eight crore enrollments as scheme marks 10th anniversary

The Atal Pension Yojana reached eight crore total enrollments after adding 3.9 million new members during fiscal year 2025-26. Finance Ministry officials announced this achievement as the retirement program marks ten years since its May 2015 launch. The government designed this voluntary savings plan for poor and underprivileged workers in India's informal economy. Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority manages enrollment through banks, postal services, and community outreach efforts.

Participants receive guaranteed monthly payments between 1,000 and 5,000 rupees after turning 60 years old. Spouses continue receiving identical amounts after subscribers pass away, while nominees inherit accumulated funds after both deaths. Citizens aged 18 through 40 may join this program unless they pay income taxes. Government data from April showed 7.65 crore members, with women representing nearly half of all participants. The scheme requires regular contributions but promises financial security for retirement years.
