Attacks drive 1,600 from Muidumbe

Nearly 1,600 individuals fled their homes in Muidumbe district, Cabo Delgado province, following attacks by non-state armed groups. According to the International Organization for Migration, the displacement of 490 households occurred over several days beginning in mid-November. The displaced populations sought refuge at three separate sites.

Field assessments indicate that women and children constitute the majority of the new arrivals. Immediate humanitarian needs for the group include food, shelter, and essential non-food items. This incident is part of a broader pattern of violence in the province, where insurgent activity has caused thousands of deaths since 2017.

Mozambique's Prime Minister, Benvinda Levi, recently acknowledged the persistent challenge of terrorism in certain Cabo Delgado districts. She noted, however, a general stabilization in the security situation that has enabled the gradual return of some populations to their areas of origin.
