Attorney general quits to run in BNP election bid

The top prosecutor just quit to run for office. Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman resigned from his post to be a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election. His deputy, Md Asad Uddin, said the resignation letter was signed and will go to the president on Sunday. Asaduzzaman, who was only appointed to the role in August 2024, will run for the BNP party in the Jhenaidah-1 constituency.

Before becoming attorney general, he held party positions. He worked as the BNP's Human Rights Secretary on its central committee and was an adviser to the party chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia. His move to leave the government's top legal job for a campaign is now official.
