Nepal gets first female attorney general Sabita Bhandari

Nepal achieved a historic milestone when President Ramchandra Paudel selected Sabita Bhandari for the attorney general position. The appointment marks the first time a woman has occupied this high-ranking legal office in the country. Prime Minister Sushila Karki recommended Bhandari for the prestigious role during Sunday proceedings. The president's office confirmed acceptance of former attorney general Ramesh Badal's departure from the position.

Bhandari brings extensive legal experience from her previous work as an Information Commissioner. Her family background reflects a deep commitment to legal scholarship through her father, Krishna Prasad Bhandari's, academic contributions. The prime minister presented Bhandari's candidacy during morning consultations on Sunday. Official confirmation followed quickly after Bhandari accepted the appointment offer. This historic selection represents significant progress for women's representation in Nepal's highest legal positions.
