Atwoli set for sixth term as Cotu chief

Kenya’s eternal trade union boss refuses to retire after decades in power. Francis Atwoli secured endorsements from forty-two affiliated groups to seek a sixth term leading the Central Organisation of Trade Unions. General Secretaries met him for lunch and unanimously backed his bid for the upcoming elections later this year.

This man has held the position since two thousand one, making him the longest-serving chief in local history. His victory five years ago saw him run completely unopposed. Executive committee members insist he remains the ideal candidate to defend worker rights across the nation.

Kenya Aviation Workers Union boss Moss Ndiema dismissed claims that the seventy-four-year-old should quit. Ndiema argued that experience matters more than fresh faces and claimed that Atwoli looks young compared to international peers. The constitution governing the body contains no age limits for leadership roles.

Atwoli previously led plantation and agricultural workers before taking the top seat. His influence extends globally after the International Labour Organization governing body picked him as a Titular Member for a fifth stint. This record makes him the longest-serving figure within that global entity as well.
