AU-EU alliance powers up Africa’s digital future with bold new funding

African Union and European Union big shots met up in Luanda to pump €122 million into the Finnfund Global Connect program, and about €32 million from that pile goes toward undersea cables, fiber networks, data centers, and mobile payment setups across Africa. EU delegation spokesperson Twaku Kayofa mentioned that the partnership already pushed €120 billion into projects around the continent, and they're tracking to hit €150 billion before too long.

Both sides agreed to back AU-led peace operations in conflict zones like the Great Lakes region while boosting cooperation on counterterrorism and organized crime. The summit celebrated 25 years since the first meetup in Cairo, and leaders used the Namibia partnership as proof that the whole EU-Africa relationship actually works when countries stick to UN charter values.
