A vehicle owned by Hassan Ayariga collided with a commercial bus near the Ashaiman Overhead on Friday afternoon after an ambulance with police escort tried to pass through traffic. The Toyota V8 carrying registration GN 76-16 hit the commercial vehicle marked GS 3642-12 before sliding into a drainage channel alongside the road.
Frank Amoah said he stopped his commercial bus to let the ambulance pass when the Toyota struck his vehicle from behind. His assistant suffered injuries and received hospital care after the crash.
The Toyota driver said a police motorcycle rider hit his vehicle while clearing traffic for the ambulance carrying a body. He swerved to avoid the motorcycle but struck the bus instead.
Ayariga said he learned about the accident while traveling to an event and called the news disturbing. Police removed both vehicles from the scene and opened an inquiry to establish how the collision happened. The Toyota driver remains under medical observation.
