Bail hearing halted after NUP supporter vomits blood

Court proceedings for National Unity Platform supporters were suspended after defendant Sauda Madada began vomiting blood during bail hearings. Chief magistrate Roselyn Nsenge ordered Madada transported to Mulago hospital, acknowledging responsibility for prisoner welfare. Prison officers had assisted the weakened defendant into the courtroom, where she was using a catheter.

Authorities arrested Madada at the Uganda-Kenya border crossing in Busia. She faces charges alongside 10 co-defendants, including Edward Ssebufu, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, and Doreen Kaija, for allegedly conducting an unauthorized military gathering at party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule without ministerial approval. Previous bail requests have been denied.

Madada holds the position of Inspector General of Police within NUP and recently filed as an independent candidate for Kampala Central Division Councillor after losing the party nomination.
