Balaka Sees Electoral Push as NICE Trust Promotes Civic Duty

NICE Trust encourages citizens of Balaka district to join the electoral process and select leaders during the September 16 General Elections. The organization's program manager for Balaka District, Henry Zekeria, delivered this message at a meeting with residents of Lemu village under Traditional Authority Kachenga. The awareness effort focuses on motivating eligible voters to support candidates who demonstrate genuine concern for community welfare. Participation remains an essential constitutional right for every Malawian citizen.

Mr. Zekeria urged voters to examine campaign messages carefully before making decisions. He reminded citizens that the Political Party Act makes it illegal for politicians to distribute gifts in exchange for electoral support. If someone offers you something, you may accept it, but remember to vote based on which candidate offers real solutions to community problems. This advice helps protect the integrity of the democratic process throughout the district.

The local leadership appreciated NICE Trust's educational initiatives. Group village head Lemu promised to share the information with community members under his authority. He expressed his desire for eligible residents to exercise their voting rights during the upcoming September elections. His goal involves helping communities select representatives ready to address current challenges facing local populations.

The Malawi Electoral Commission recently completed a voter transfer exercise in Balaka district from February 25-27, 2025. According to preliminary data released by the commission, Balaka District has 169,829 registered voters across all registration phases. NICE Trust continues implementing the "Boma Lathu" Programme with funding from the European Union. This program works to ensure officials remain accountable and responsive to concerns raised by the citizens they serve.
