Baldwin battles dark days, faith pulled him through Rust trauma

Alec Baldwin talked about having serious suicidal thoughts following the fatal shooting on the Rust movie set. The incident happened back in October of 2021 when a prop gun he was handling went off, killing the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding the director Joel Souza. The legal case against him for manslaughter got dismissed twice and is now closed. Baldwin said on a podcast that the whole ordeal left him in a very dark place, often lying in bed, feeling like he could not face another identical day. He described a daily struggle to find a reason to wait just one more day.

He said his deepest concern was the pain it caused his family, especially his wife Hilaria, and their kids. He hated seeing him broken and unable to move. Baldwin believes the stress has severely damaged his health, saying it has taken at least ten years off his life. His wife has previously said he was diagnosed with PTSD from the tragedy.
