Bangladesh Reports 17.64 Lakh Tonnes of Rice and Wheat in Stock as of 1 July

Bangladesh just hit a major food storage milestone that has government officials celebrating. The country packed away 17.64 lakh tonnes of rice and wheat across warehouses on July 1st. Food Ministry bosses revealed the impressive numbers show a jump of three lakh tonnes compared to last year's stocks. The massive stockpile gives millions of families better food security during tough times.

Government warehouses held much less grain during the same period last year. Storage facilities contained only 14.73 lakh tonnes of rice and wheat back on July 1st, 2024. Rice supplies made up 10.60 lakh tonnes of that total amount. Wheat stocks reached 4.13 lakh tonnes at the time. The increase shows how hard officials worked to build up emergency food reserves.

This year's numbers paint a different picture for grain storage across the nation. Rice stockpiles grew dramatically to 15.41 lakh tonnes as farmers delivered bigger harvests. Wheat supplies dropped to 2.23 lakh tonnes because people needed more grain than expected. The government distributed more wheat than it could buy from local farmers or import from other countries. Officials started the new fiscal year with confidence about feeding the population.
