Bangladesh slides into chaos as violence escalates

A power vacuum has emerged in Bangladesh following recent political upheaval, according to a report from Northeast News on Wednesday. Islamist groups and opposition parties have moved to fill this void while traditional parties face marginalization. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party supported banning the Awami League despite its significant electoral base, creating dangerous instability.

Violence has escalated dramatically across the nation since the transition. The human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra recorded 441 rape cases in the first half of 2025, surpassing all of last year. Monthly river body recoveries have increased 20 percent, while 266 journalists faced criminal charges by May.

Religious minorities bear the brunt of the turmoil. Hindu communities face systematic attacks while authorities blame victims for their political affiliations. Sufi Muslims have also suffered from 84 documented shrine attacks since July 2024.

Observers warn that Bangladesh risks becoming an unstable and radicalized state. The country needs immediate intervention to preserve its founding principles and prevent further deterioration.
