Barrow stalls TRRC justice, victims left on read

President Barrow's government has completed 60 of 263 Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission recommendations since receiving the report. National Assembly Human Rights Committee Chairman Madi Ceesay disclosed these figures on Friday during talks with The Gambia Center for Victims in Senegambia. Authorities designed 304 separate activities to fulfill all commission proposals, and 101 remain underway with completion targeted for 2027. Victims expressed doubts about official commitment, and suggested former regime officials in current positions may obstruct progress.

The Victims Center faces severe budget constraints after authorities delayed funding approval until January 2026. National Coordinator Kebba Jome said the organization relies heavily on donor contributions that declined after the pandemic began. The center paid annual rent in advance despite uncertain finances, and officials praised the assembly committee for advocacy efforts.
