Barzani, Talabani carve up Kurdistan in Pirmam

Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani met with Patriotic Union of Kurdistan leader Bafel Talabani at his Pirmam office Saturday. The discussion addressed Iraq's political developments and regional government formation. Both leaders examined ongoing challenges facing the Kurdistan Region. They focused on the political process for establishing new leadership.

Recent developments include an oil export agreement between Erbil and Baghdad ending a lengthy suspension. Federal parliamentary elections approach November 11, 2025, featuring both Kurdish organizations. The October 2024 regional elections gave KDP 39 seats and PUK 23 seats. Cabinet formation for the 10th regional government remains pending.

The parties previously met July 14 to discuss financial disputes and salary delays. This meeting demonstrates continued coordination between the region's leading political forces. Their collaboration addresses both local governance and national political participation. The dialogue reflects their joint approach during this governmental transition.
