Bastianini crashes out in Mandalika, KTM hopes dashed

KTM rider Enea Bastianini retired from the Indonesian Grand Prix on Sunday because of mechanical problems. The Italian finished on the podium in Barcelona weeks earlier, but he struggled at Mandalika from Friday practice sessions through race day.

Bastianini said the team worked to improve his bike setup, but he noted riders overtook him under braking even though he performed well in fast corners. He wants to test the chassis used by Pedro Acosta, the only KTM rider who has recently shown competitive pace with the RC16.

The rider said he can evaluate the new frame better at this stage of the season compared to earlier in the year. Bastianini expressed concern about the strong winds expected at the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks.
