Quartararo stunned after nearly snagging Mandalika podium

Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo finished seventh at the Indonesian Grand Prix on Sunday, just two seconds behind the podium finishers. The French rider said he did not expect such a strong result after struggling with bike setup earlier in the weekend.

Teammate Alex Rins led the Yamaha effort for most of the race, but a tire problem dropped him down the order. Quartararo praised Rins' performance, saying the data from his teammate's riding helped him understand areas for improvement. All four Yamaha riders finished near the top 10 for the first time this season.

Quartararo managed his rear tire carefully throughout the 27-lap race, preventing overtaking attempts but limiting his ability to challenge riders ahead. He selected a hard front tire and soft rear tire combination that few other competitors used. The rider expressed cautious optimism ahead of the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks.
