The government of Uganda says people should not worry about Dr. Besigye, who is in prison. He visited a doctor at a clinic on Sunday and then returned to prison.
The president's representative, Mr. Kirunda, told everyone that Dr. Besigye was safe. He said the family can visit him in prison whenever they want. Mr. Kirunda asked the family to help Dr. Besigye eat his food because he had stopped eating.
Dr. Besigye was in a military court before, but the highest court in Uganda said people who are not soldiers should not be tried in military courts. The government promises to move his case to a normal court. They say they are working on it but have not said when it will happen.
Dr. Besigye's wife, Mrs. Byanyima, does not believe what the government is saying. She thinks they put her husband in prison because of his work in politics. She wants him to be free right away.
The police say Dr. Besigye did bad things. They say he had guns when he should not have had them. They also say he made people angry by leading a big walk in the streets when food prices were very high.
When Dr. Besigye went to court on Friday, he looked very tired and had trouble breathing. His friends and family want him to come out of prison. Many people are asking the government to help him faster, but no one knows when he will be free.
