Beth Mooney’s century leads Australia to a 107-run win over Pakistan

Beth Mooney's brilliant century and a dominant performance by Australia's pace attack led the defending champions to a 107-run victory over Pakistan in their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.

The win extended Australia's unbeaten record to 17-0 and moved them to the top of the points table with two wins and one no result from three matches.

After being reduced to 76/7, Mooney scored an exceptional 109 off 114 balls, anchoring Australia’s recovery. She was supported by Alana King, who remained unbeaten on 51 off 49 balls. Their 106-run partnership for the ninth wicket set a new record for the highest ninth-wicket stand in Women’s ODIs. Australia finished on 221/9, a total that seemed unlikely when Pakistan’s spinners dominated early on.

In reply, Pakistan’s top order collapsed under pressure from Kim Garth (3/14) and Megan Schutt (2/25), reducing them to 6/42 in the powerplay. Sidra Ameen (35) was the only resistance, while Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 36.3 overs. Australia’s bowlers, including Annabel Sutherland (2/15) and Alana King (1/19), completed the rout.

Australia 221/9 in 50 overs (Beth Mooney 109, Alana King 51; Nashra Sandhu 3-37, Rameen Shamim 2-29) beat Pakistan 114 all out in 36.3 overs (Sidra Ameen 35, Rameen Shamim 15; Kim Garth 3-14, Annabel Sutherland 2-15) by 107 runs.
