Banaras Hindu University will launch a two-year master's program in yoga through its Department of Vedic Philosophy. The four-semester course covers Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and practical training in asanas, pranayama, mudras, bandhas, and satkarmas. Professor Rajaram Shukla stated that tuition remains lower than that of comparable programs at other institutions, in line with the founder, Malaviya Ji's commitment to providing affordable, quality education.
The Academic Council approved the program on September 27, following requests from faculty members and students. The course fills a gap in the Purvanchal region, where no similar program exists. Students can pursue careers in academia and professional yoga instruction because the University Grants Commission administers National Eligibility Tests for the subject.
Professors Rajaram Shukla and Shashikant Dwivedi developed the curriculum to strike a balance between theory and practice. Alumni Shivam Tiwari and research scholar Sunakshu Tiwari believe the program will deepen academic engagement with yoga studies.
