Bitumen World denies bribery claims made by MP Energy Mutodi

Civil engineering firm Bitumen World has rejected allegations made by MP Energy Mutodi, who claimed the company was asked to pay bribes to Finance Ministry permanent secretary George Guvamatanga in exchange for payments on government road contracts.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Bitumen World’s CEO Andre Zietsman denied the claims, stating that the company had not been approached by Guvamatanga for any kickbacks. Zietsman reaffirmed Bitumen World's commitment to supporting the government’s infrastructure projects and ensuring quality work to enhance the national road network.

Mutodi’s allegations, which he later withdrew, sparked significant online reactions. The Zanu-PF MP was subsequently removed as chair of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion after a no-confidence vote by the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders.
