A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation vehicle caught fire Monday morning while transporting 75 passengers from Majestic to Kadugodi. The driver spotted smoke emerging from the engine compartment near the HAL Entrance and immediately ordered an evacuation. All passengers escaped without injury as flames quickly consumed the entire bus. Emergency responders arrived and extinguished the blaze after the vehicle suffered complete destruction. BMTC officials have assembled an investigation team to determine what caused the fire.
Previous bus fires have resulted in casualties across Karnataka. An abandoned school bus fire killed one person in Banaswadi in August. A 2013 luxury bus crash and fire near the Haveri district claimed seven lives and injured over 25 people. Authorities arrested the driver who initially fled that scene. Another private bus fire injured three people in KR Puram in 2014 after the vehicle struck a motorcycle.
