Bokpin hails Mahama's economic team, faults Akufo-Addo era for missed reforms

University of Ghana Business School economist Godfred Bokpin praised President John Mahama's economic leadership during Saturday's TV3 Key Points program. The professor highlighted stark differences between current and former government approaches to financial management. Bokpin credited the present administration with demonstrating effective economic stewardship that Ghana previously lacked. He emphasized that current central bank leadership exhibits qualities absent during prior management periods. The economist believes these leadership improvements could have prevented previous economic difficulties.

Bokpin recently addressed similar themes during a Joy FM Super Morning Show appearance. He reflected on missed opportunities when Nana Akufo-Addo assumed office in 2017 with substantial parliamentary support. The professor characterized that period as ideal for implementing transformative national reforms that never materialized. He expressed disappointment over the administration's failure to pursue structural and productivity improvements. Bokpin suggests the current government possesses the opportunity to fulfill the reform mandate that previous leadership abandoned.
