Borisov ditches Hemus ribbon as floods drown GERB towns

Political scientist Kaloyan Metodiev criticized the government's opening of a 10-kilometer Hemus highway segment on Friday. The Nepokorna Bulgaria Executive Committee member accused officials of staging publicity events and said Prime Minister Boyko Borisov avoided attending the ceremony. Deputy Atanas Zafirov represented the government after Borisov withdrew from the scheduled appearance with Regional Minister Ivan Ivanov.

Metodiev questioned why officials celebrated infrastructure projects instead of addressing flood damage in coastal areas and the Sofia waste crisis. He noted that GERB party mayors govern the most affected municipalities after serving multiple terms. The political scientist dismissed the event as meaningless because journalists could not question Borisov about problems in Tsarevo, Lozenets, Elenite, Lyulin, Krasno Selo, Druzhba, Pleven, Lovech, Breznik, Tran, Svishtov, Balvan, and other communities facing difficulties.
