Bosso shuts Chivayo's door, missed fortune haunts next season

Highlanders FC from Bulawayo basically torched their chance at becoming loaded when they publicly shut down businessman Wicknell Chivayo's proposal to install former national team captain Benjani Mwaruwari as head coach. The rejection cost them access to serious transfer market cash that would have let them outbid rivals like Scottland and Simba Bhora for top free agents, plus the prestige of having an English Premier League veteran running the technical side.

Chivayo's backing would have given the club enough money to dominate contract negotiations with out-of-work players while redirecting coaching salaries toward youth programs and infrastructure upgrades. Benjani's reputation alone could have attracted talent just wanting to work with someone who played at elite European levels, and his presence would have commanded automatic respect in the locker room.

The club missed out on setting up a committee-style coaching structure similar to what Mamelodi Sundowns uses in South Africa, where Benjani would have handled strategy and motivation while former players stayed involved in the technical setup.
