Brazilian Thigh Smuggler Nabbed With R1.4m Coke

Police caught a 39-year-old Brazilian man with cocaine worth 1.4 million rand at OR Tambo Airport. Officers found the drugs wrapped around his legs during a body search. The man flew from São Paulo on Friday morning and planned to travel to Benin. Airport security stopped him before he could continue his journey. He faces drug trafficking charges at Kempton Park court.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said most drug smugglers come from Brazil. These criminals usually swallow drugs to hide them from authorities. Officers caught more than 20 traffickers at the airport over six months. Police arrested over 23,000 drug suspects from January to March this year. Smart police work helped them catch these criminals.

Officers arrested 3,471 people for selling drugs during this period. Police shut down a secret drug lab and caught six people from Mozambique and three South Africans. They took away drugs, fast cars, and machines worth 27 million rand. Officers found three million rand in cash hidden inside a Mercedes car. Police closed another drug lab and arrested two more suspects.
