Britain, France, and Saudi Arabia throw $170m lifeline to the Palestinian Authority

A dozen countries formed an emergency fund Friday to help the struggling Palestinian Authority. The financial coalition responds to a crisis created when Israel stopped sending tax money to the Palestinian government in Ramallah. Spain announced that Britain, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia and eight other nations joined the rescue effort. The group wants to keep essential services running and maintain peace in the region.

Donors promised at least 170 million dollars to support Palestinian operations. Saudi Arabia pledged 90 million dollars through its foreign ministry. The alliance demands that Israel immediately return all blocked Palestinian tax revenues. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said he wants to destroy the Palestinian government by cutting off its money.
