A Bulawayo woman received a community service sentence for possessing drugs. Doreen Matongo, thirty-four, was convicted on two counts related to crystal meth and cocaine found at her Makokoba suburb home. The combined street value was over seven thousand dollars.
Prosecutors said police acted on a tip about her house being a drug haven. A search uncovered meth hidden under her bed and cocaine in a jacket pocket. Matongo had previously avoided arrest by hiding after a prior drug case stalled due to paperwork delays.
The magistrate sentenced her to a year in prison, but suspended half of it on condition she completes two hundred ten hours of community service at a local police station. The other six months were suspended for five years.
