Bumrah bags five as India sinks South Africa

A dominant bowling performance led by Jasprit Bumrah gave India a commanding position on the first day of the opening Test against South Africa. After the visitors chose to bat at Eden Gardens, they were dismissed for 159, with Bumrah claiming five wickets for 27 runs.

India reached 37 for one by stumps, trailing by 122 runs. South Africa’s innings faltered after a promising start from its openers, collapsing under consistent pressure from the Indian attack. The team also missed its key pace bowler, Kagiso Rabada, who was unavailable due to a rib injury. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav and pacer Mohammed Siraj provided strong support, each taking two wickets.
