Busquets hangs up boots in Miami after wild ride

Inter Miami announced Thursday that defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets will end his professional football career after the current Major League Soccer season concludes. The 37-year-old Spanish international developed through Barcelona's academy system before making his first-team debut in 2008 and remaining with the club for eighteen seasons. Busquets earned 143 caps for Spain and helped secure victories at the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship. He accumulated over 700 Barcelona appearances while capturing nine domestic league titles and three Champions League trophies.

The midfielder relocated to Miami in 2023 and rejoined former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez. His American soccer tenure brought Leagues Cup and Supporters' Shield championships before his upcoming retirement announcement. Busquets expressed gratitude for his nearly two-decade career through social media statements. He will complete his final professional matches during the upcoming MLS playoff competition.
