James Cameron went off on people dragging his Avatar sequel for using high frame rate tech and 3D effects after The Way of Water pulled in over two billion at the box office. The director basically said the money proves haters wrong, and he doubled down by saying it's his film anyway. Cameron has been shooting large chunks at 48 frames per second instead of the usual 24 to make everything look more lifelike.
The filmmaker also ranted about how streaming platforms wrecked theatrical releases this year and blamed COVID for pushing everyone toward watching stuff at home. He thinks people need something wild enough to justify getting a babysitter before they'll bother heading to theaters anymore, and Avatar fits that category better than most releases.
