Cameroon opposition leader dies in custody, nation reels

A 74-year-old opposition politician in Cameroon just died while locked up by the government, and his family never got to see him before he was gone. Anicet Ekane got arrested after backing a candidate who claimed the recent presidential election was rigged against him, and lawyers say authorities never formally charged him with anything despite holding him for five weeks.

His party claims the military hospital wouldn't let him get his meds, but government people are denying that and saying he had preexisting health problems that killed him. The whole thing has people absolutely furious online and gathering at party offices to mourn, while security forces are apparently surrounding the building.
