Captain Gill denies Nitish Kumar Reddy bat in ruthless win

India defeated West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, with vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja taking 4-54. The victory before the tea break on day three gave India a 1-0 series lead and marked Shubman Gill's successful home Test captaincy debut.

India declared at 448-5 with a 286-run lead, then dismissed West Indies for 146 in 45.1 overs. Alick Athanaze scored 38, and Justin Greaves added 25 in a brief 46-run partnership, but West Indies collapsed after being reduced to 46-5.

Mohammed Siraj claimed 3-31, while Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar provided crucial breakthroughs. Jadeja nearly secured a five-wicket haul after scoring an unbeaten 104 in the first innings.

Dhruv Jurel's maiden century and KL Rahul's hundred established India's commanding first-innings total. The second Test begins in New Delhi on Oct. 10.
