Carrick Gets Fired After Three Promotion Flops

Middlesbrough fired coach Michael Carrick after three failed attempts to reach the Premier League. The former Manchester United player started managing the team during October 2022. Carrick replaced Chris Wilder and showed early promise with his new squad. He guided Middlesbrough to fourth place during his first complete season. The strong start gave fans hope for future success.

Performance went downhill during the next two campaigns as promotion hopes faded. The team could not maintain their early momentum under Carrick's leadership. Middlesbrough missed out on advancement opportunities at each season's finish. Chairman Steve Gibson met with Carrick before making the final decision. The 43-year-old manager still had two years left on his current contract.
